The fish-gallbladder connection was first discovered by researchers from johns Hopkins in studies using laboratory animals then a study replicated with humans. Seventeen people with gallstones took fish oil capsules containing 960 milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids three times a day. Within 14 days, signs of gallstone formation in these people slowed. "What's encouraging is that the amount of fish oil used was not unreasonable." "We suspect that eating fish two or three times a week would work just as well." (Fish highest in omega-3 fatty acids are cold-water species, such as salmon, herring, mackerel, bluefin tuna, anchovies, and sardines.)
