TICS

TICS
Simple tics are quite common in middle childhood. Head and neck are most commonly affected (blinks, grimaces, throat clearing etc). Severe forms include coprolalia (tics with explosive obscene utterance) and Gilles dela Tourette’s syndrome. The origins of the tics are usually considered developmental but exacerbation by stress and emotional disorders have also been observed in majority of the cases.

Treatment approaches include, explanation, reassurance, relaxation training, behavior therapy and use of drugs, (for example Haloperidol in Tourette’s syndrome).
