Apparently, says Dr. Suarez, they were mistaking symptoms of something else for lactose intolerence. In another study, Dr. Suarez found that lactose maldigesters can tolerate 2 cups of milk a day. Other who thought they were lactose intolerant did have some flatulence, but it occurred whether or not they had a food or beverage containing lactose.
