When and where ice was first used to keep food fresh, nobody knows. Many thousands of years age when our ancestors lived in caves and existed largely on the wild game they killed, someone made a great discovery. he found that meat which was kept in the coolest part of the cave stayed fresh much longer than meat that was left in the heat.

Later another member of this prehistoric race found that in winter time he could do still better with his meat. He could bury it in snow or surround it with ice and keep it for weeks. So began the history of ice refrigeration.
