Salt and Sodium |
If you answered "no" you're not alone. According to government surveys, only one in four adults thinks his or her diet is too high in salt or sodium.
But, surprise! Americans generally eat significantly more sodium than the 2,400 milligrams recommended by many health experts. Men average about 4,000 milligrams and women 3,000 milligrams daily from food alone, not even counting the extra we shake on at the table.
Health experts recommend limiting your sodium intake to 2,400 milligrams per day. The % Daily Value shown on the Nutrition Facts label is based on this level.
