Recurrent Or Chronic Sinusitis |
Etiology
- Allergic rhinitis.
- Diving or jumping into water feet first.
- Nasal septal deviation, nasal malformation, polyp, or foreign body.
- Poor host resistance (eg, an immune defect, Kartagener's syndrome, or cystic fibrosis).
Treatment
- Anaerobes and staphylococci are often responsible.
- Allergies are treated.
- Diving is avoided.
- Consult otolaryngologist for complete evaluation.
- Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is being undertaken for some patients with recurrent or persistent sinusitis.
