Recurrent Or Chronic Sinusitis
Etiology
  • Allergic rhinitis.
  • Diving or jumping into water feet first.
  • Nasal septal deviation, nasal malformation, polyp, or foreign body.
  • Poor host resistance (eg, an immune defect, Kartagener's syndrome, or cystic fibrosis).
Treatment
  • Anaerobes and staphylococci are often responsible.
  • Allergies are treated.
  • Diving is avoided.
  • Consult otolaryngologist for complete evaluation.
  • Functional endoscopic sinus surgery is being undertaken for some patients with recurrent or persistent sinusitis.
