RADAR

RADAR
In 1938, experimental radar equipment was installed on the U.S.S. Texas and the U.S.S. New York. The tests proving satisfactory, the Navy decided to install additional radar sets. In October, 1939, because of RCA'a pioneer radar work, it was awarded contracts for six sets of aircraft detection equipment patterned after a model built at the Naval Research Laboratory, and as installed on the U.S.S. New York. This was the first Navy service radar equipment order. The apparatus built by RCA was installed on United States naval vessels beginning in 1940.
