As the fertilized ovum moves towards the uterus, cell division takes place until it consists of a ball of cells (morula). A cavity appears in the morula which is now termed the blastocyst. It take the ovum about 7 days to reach the blastocyst stage and at this time it comes to rest in the endometrium which is now called the decidua.
