Pleural Effusion

Pleural Effusion
Etiology

Fluid may accumulate in the pleura in association with pulmonary disease like pneumonia, tuberculosis, infarction, trauma, collagen disease or in conditions associated with generalised anasarca.

Clinical Features

Clinically the percussion note is stony dull on the affected side and breath sounds are often diminished or absent. There is shifting of apex beat and trachea towards the opposite side.
