Go for Garlic. Garlic and onions are well respected for their benefits against heart disease but often overlooked when it comes to their cancer-fighting prowess. The same compounds that make you cry when you start slicing onions are the ones that may stop cancer-causing chemicals in their tracks, say scientists. There are substances in garlic that rival chemicals used in chemotherapy, like daily trisulfide, which flat-out kills human lung cancer cells.

"Like beans, it's incredibly easy to add onions and garlic into your diet. Add them to pasta, put them in soups, or use them on sandwiches," says Dr. Bloch.
