Telescope

Telescope
The story goes that Jan Lippershey, a spectacle lens maker of Middelburg, Holland, happened to hold a convex lens in one hand and a concave lens in the other. By chance he held them in a line and looked through them both at the village church steeple. He was surprised to notice that the steeple seemed much nearer and larger than when he looked at it without the lenses.
