Strongyloides Stercoralis Infestation
General Considerations 

Mode of transmission is from larvae in the soil. Auto-infection also occurs. Major clinical features are vague abdominal pain, diarrhoea and malabsorption.

Diagnosis

By microscopic examination of stool or duodenal aspiration. It is not a commonly diagnosed condition in this part of the world.

Treatment is by thiabendazole, 25 mg/kg BD orally for 2 days.

Cestodes Or Flat Worm Infections 

To this group belong the platyhelminths or Tape worms that include the following:


  1. Taenia saginata or Beef Tape Worm;
  2. Taenia solium or Pork Tape Worm;
  3. Taenia echinococcus (Hydatid Cyst);
  4. Hymenolepis nana;
  5. Diphyllobothrium latum.
