NUTRITION IN PREGNANCY

NUTRITION IN PREGNANCY
A nutritious diet is essential during pregnancy for the growing fetus, maternal well being, and for successful lactation in the puerperium. The food requirement in pregnancy is increased but the quality rather than quantity should be improved upon. Increasing the quantity of diet will increase the weight of the mother, which is unnecessary and may prove injurious. Improving the quality of diet will better the general health without an excessive increase in weight. The ingredients of a diet are protein, fat and carbohydrate.
